DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

At Wemmer Pan, we are committed to expanding access to the sport of rowing by designing affordable, welcoming and inclusive programming that can reflect, in race and socioeconomics, the larger Johannesburg community and specifically the surrounding south Jozi neighbourhoods. We serve this development goal through two rowing programmes- a Junior Squad and an Under 25 Squad.

The Junior Squad (Ages 13 – 18)

In partnership with Sir John Adamson High School in Winchester Hills, we offer a robust competitive club rowing program year-round. Our Junior squad is further made up of youth ages 12-19 from all over the larger Johannesburg area who don’t have rowing at their school or are moving to a rowing school in the coming year but want to get a head start. Our rowers come from Turffonetein and Fourways, Parktown, Mondeor, Winchester Hills and Blairgowrie and row together as one team competing (and winning) against both club teams and the competitive school teams from around South Africa. We accept kids ages 12-19 and no rowing experience is necessary!

At a discounted adult membership cost we offer coaching Monday-Thursday between 3 and 6 pm and Saturday mornings between 9 and 11:30. And young adult rowers have full access to the rowing equipment during any of the clubs open hours.

Membership is payable month-to-month or in 3, 6 or 12-month blocks and includes coaching during the designated hours, access to the equipment any time and racing fees!
